Rev. C. Mass measurements of high precision on sodium isotopes out to 30Na are reported. A relative error of 14 keV (or 5x10^-7) was achieved for 28Na having a half-life of only 30.5 ms and 9x10^-7 for the weakly produced 30Na. The results represent the most accurate measurements to date for the short-lived nuclides 28-30Na which lie in the so-called ``island of inversion'' around the N=20 shell closure. The measurements not only confirm the previous values but even show an enhancement of the binding energy which further argues for the erosion of the normally-stabilizing ``magic'' number shell effect. The preprint of this publication is available through: http://csnwww.in2p3.fr/AMDC/experimental/mistral-na.pdf II - THE ENAM'2001 CONFERENCE The organizers have already received more than 230 abstracts, showing the large interest for this conference. For those who missed the information, the deadline was extended to April 30. Therefore, if you still want to submit an abstract, there are only 5 days left. Check the Enam'2001 web at http://enam2001.jyu.fi As usual, the AMDC welcomes in its bulletins the most outstanding of these numerous works. Please send a 10-15 lines summary to the AMDC email address. III - NEW EXPERIMENTAL DEVELOPMENTS FOR MASSES Beam cooling development in Orsay / Sylvain Henry April 2001 Tests of the cooling of mass separated ion beams using a gas-filled radiofrequency quadrupole have recently produced interesting results. Beam cooling devices are important for increasing the sensitivity of precision mass measurement experiments using the weakly produced radioactive beams of exotic nuclei. The development of the apparatus included a new class of instrument for measuring beam emittances, especially tailored for weak beams. Direct evidence of a reduction of a continuous-beam emittance has been obtained using the new emittance meter, at the same time preserving an excellent transmission. These tests, performed with a low-energy test bench, will be continued using the 60 kV beam of the SIDONIE isotope separator at CSNSM, Orsay before being sent to ISOLDE/CERN.
