II - NEWS FROM EXPERIMENTS ON MASSES The ISOLTRAP Experiment / Dietrich Beck Oct 96 After two successful runs on neutron deficient rare earth isotopes in 1995, we continued the mass measurements in this region this year. To date the masses of more than 40 radioactive isotopes in the vicinity of 146Gd have been determined by ISOLTRAP. The analysis of the data is completed, and our data will be published in the proceedings of the STORI96 conference. A postscript version of this paper is available at the AMDC as file "isoltrap.ps" and at the ISOLTRAP Web site: http://nicewww.cern.ch/~trap The Paul trap (see bulletin #02, March 96) has already been tested on-line: stable ions from an ISOLDE plasma ion source were captured successfully. A first beam time on neutron deficient Hg-isotopes using the Paul trap is scheduled for the end of November of this year. GSI mass measurements at FRS-ESR / C. Scheidenberger Oct 96 High-accuracy mass measurements of proton-rich isotopes of elements ranging from Nd to Po have been performed using the novel technique of Schottky-mass spectrometry(ref.1,2). Projectile fragments produced by 209Bi ions at 930 MeV/u were separated with the magnetic spectrometer FRS and stored and cooled in the storage ring ESR. A typical mass resolving power of 350,000 and an accuracy of 100 keV were achieved. Masses of members of alpha-chains linked by precisely known Q-alpha values but not yet connected to the known masses were determined. In this way it is concluded that 201Fr and 197At are proton-unbound (ref.3). ref.1 B. Franzke et al., Phys. Scripta T59, 176 (1995). ref.2 B. Schlitt et al., Hyp. Int. 99, 117 (1996). ref.3 T. Radon et al., submitted to Phys. Rev. Lett. available also at the AMDC as file "frs-esr.ps" III - NEWS ON THEORETICAL MASSES Masses of nuclei with Z>N / M.Avotina, K.Erokhina, I.Lemberg, N.Voronova July 96 A method is developed to calculate masses of nuclei with Z>N. It uses a new type of Garvey-Kelson equation and experimental mass differences of mirror nuclei with T equal to 1/2 or larger to estimate the displacement of Coulomb energy. The method describes well all mass values known from experiment. Masses of 199 nuclei with Z>N and A<64 are given in a table which is available as postscript file "ioffe_gk.ps" from the AMDC. IV - NUBASE NUBASE is a database containing the main nuclear properties and decay properties of nuclides in their ground- and isomeric-states: masses, excitation energies of isomers, half-lives, spins and parities, decay modes and their intensities. A brief status report on NUBASE is available from the AMDC as file "nubase.status" (ascii). V - THE NINTH INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON CAPTURE GAMMA-RAY SPECTROSCOPY AND RELATED TOPICS (CGS-9) The CGS9 Symposium took place in Budapest, Hungary, on 8-12 October 1996. For the first time was a topical session "Nuclear Data" included in the conference programme that turned out to be a great success. The plenary session, chaired by G. Audi, consisted of three invited talks by R. A. Meyer (DoE, USA), R. B. Firestone (LBL, USA) and P. Oblozinsky (IAEA, Vienna) on recent developments in data evaluation and dissemination, including Internet services. In the afternoon poster sessions, chaired by J. Dairiki, ten invited posters were presented. The accompanying software demonstrations of "VuENSDF" and "NUCLEUS" as well as of the CD-ROM versions of the new Table of Isotopes, Nuclear Structure References, PC-Nudat and other programmes particularly attracted attention.
